What’s a BioBlitz?? Let’s break it down — “Bio”, most of you all know means “life”. “Blitz” historically refers to a “sudden, intense military attack”; but, in this case, it’s a “sudden, concentrated effort”. Put these together, and you get a concentrated effort to look for and document all kinds of life in a particular area (e.g. plants, animals, insects, fungi, bacteria, etc.). Bioblitzes and citizen science are two emerging phenomena that help document biodiversity in protected areas like national parks. RMSSN will use both approaches to instruct future leaders on natural resource management and community engagement in our nations protected areas.
